Hidden Figures Book Club, Fall 2017

Hidden Figures: Read. Watch. Discuss.

Welcome to the Fall 2017 MCC Book Club! This semester we will read Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race.

Through a participatory process, Red Mountain faculty and staff chose this title because it is an inspiring story that celebrates the role of intellect, determination, and unity in overcoming sexism and racism. This story can be approached from many perspectives and academic disciplines including women's studies, ethnic studies, math, engineering, technology, history, and sociology. This story also illustrates the importance of family, education, mentors, and the power of everyday acts of resistance.

We encourage everyone to join and help foster a greater sense of community through a shared academic and social experience; encourage an exchange of ideas among students, faculty, staff, and community members; increase awareness of academic, cultural, and social issues; and promote various disciplines across the college.
