National Poetry Month

National Poetry Month is celebrated during the month of April and was established by the Academy of American Poets in 1996. It encourages booksellers, libraries, poets, publishers, and schools to promote the importance of poetry and its significance to society and culture.

The artwork for this year's poster was created by Samantha Aikman, a tenth grader from Mount Mansfield Union High School in Richmond, Vermont. Samantha is the winner of this year's National Poetry Month Poster Contest for Students. Her artwork was selected by former U.S. Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera and award-winning cartoonist Alison Bechdel.
